Do's When Promoting an Event On Social Media

Are you planning an event and do you want it to be top-of-mind with your audience? Use social media! Social media has emerged as an efficient and effective way to create awareness to and promote the events you host or sponsor. In this blog I will point out some tactics that you can use to promote your event on social media and drive visitors and ticket sales.

1. Choose the social platform which suits your event best

In order to decide which channels you’re going to use, you have to determine you target audience. Depending on your industry and target audience, some social media channels may be more effective than other, and you should tailor your tactics accordingly. With Facebook, you can promote a large-scale event. Make it open to the public to reach as many users as possible. Most people have Facebook events connected to their smartphones, because of Facebooks calendar connection. Facebook events are the perfect way to get users’ attention and keep it. LinkedIn is still underused as a tool for promoting events, but is the perfect way to promote corporate events. You can use your network to send invitation messages, publish a short article to reach a broader audience, or even pay for ads to extend your reach even further.

2. Write a clear & thorough description and be creative

It’s important to start with a clear and catchy title to make users of social media interested in your event. Moreover, whichever platform you choose, provide details for your event such as pricing, location and the schedule. Unclear information shows unprofessionalism and will leave people confused. Show people why it is worth attending your events. Be creative with photo’s of previous events you have organized or a video in which you provide more information on the event.

 3. Be engaging with your posts

Create content at social media platforms to make sure as many potential visitors see your promotions. Include images in your posts, and keep in style with the each platform. A good way to increase the reach of your promotion is to come up with a dedicated hashtag for your event which you use for all your social media promotion. Make the hashtag short, unique, and easy-to-understand.  Even though you promote the event at one specific platform, try to link all of your social media pages. Mention your event and add logo’s and hashtags in every post that is relevant for your event.

 4. Create a buzz on the internet

Make followers share your event by working with influencers, asking questions, create partnerships, creating contests etc. Bloglovin’s 2017 Marketers Survey found that 67% of marketers believe influencer marketing helps them reach more targeted audiences. You can’t just rely on your own accounts to spread the word. Interested visitors are the perfect way to motivate word-of-mouth promotion without a huge investment. Use the enthusiasm of others to promote your events as well and raise the awareness even more. In this way, you can improve your promotion strategy and make it work.
